Huh, I didn't expect so many plant eaters here.
I'm vegetarian for 5 or 6 years and became vegan about three months ago.
The canteen of my university offers cheap (and good) vegan food five times a week, so it's not a big problem even for a lazy cunt like me.
Motives: the 'usual' ethical/ecological reasons and maybe to a certain extent misanthropy, because I think the attitudes and mechanisms behind animal abuse encapsulate a lot of what I hate about the majority of people.

As for a motive, I would say it is the animals, but being a Vegetarian still supports utilizing animals as a means rather than a fellow equal-being. The dairy industry still abuses animals, and although they aren't killing them (like the meat industries), they still do them harm.

for sure. i think consuming dairy is maybe even worse thank eating meat. for the vegetarians, like us, i think the idea is only to make the least damage as possible
i know i'm not no animal life saver

You hit the nail on the head, since I too know I am no a "true" animal rights activist while still consuming dairy, but I am doing the best I can with my current dietary flexibility. I am excited to try new Vegan options though.
